Marine Electrical Power Systems

Last Update: July 13, 2024

This website is intended to provide resources for those wishing to learn more about marine electrical power systems as well as those instructors tasked with teaching the material. Shipboard power systems differ in significant ways from the more familiar terrestrial power systems; hence this website will focus on topics where these differences are important. Topics of a general nature are not covered; there are many textbooks and websites providing useful material (see below). Much of the material in this website is licensed using the Creative Commons CC BY 4.0 license to facilitate reuse in producing lecture notes and other documents. Each topic has a list of references (each having their own licenses) for further investigation.

Each topic includes a set of essential questions and the level of thinking that a student should achieve in answering the question. The Levels of Thinking are based on Bloom's taxonomy

This website is a work in progress. It will likely take a number of years to populate all the items adequately with resources. The design of the website is also kept deliberately simple, both to ease maintenance, and to ensure one can easily find desired resources.
